B&B Sorriso Dei Sassi (Smiling Rocks) Matera, Italy Well situated in the heart of the most interesting sites in Matera including the ancient and fascinating sassi (caves) this B&B was delightful. Clean, smartly decorated and efficiently used space echoing the cave structures nearby. Alessandra was a lovely hostess and we enjoyed a comfortable stay there. Fifteen minute walk from train station. You need to be in good shape to hike around Matera. Private bath.

The B&B is centrally located and is typical Sassi in construction, with vaulted ceilings. Breakfast was good, and the staff was very helpful and accommodating.

The rooms were very humid and hot, which was uncomfortable at night and early mornings. But the staff brought us a fan which helped!

It was located in the heart of the city so didnt have far to walk to see the sites.

The room was rather small and stuffy.

Perfect location in the Sassi, good "cave" size rooms nicely decorated. Freshly made juice and coffee for breakfast and nice cakes.

The floor was not that clean, there was still rubbish in the toilet bin, there was no toilet paper. It looked like they did a very quick clean job after the last guests left. Window needed to be closed due to very loud live music from restaurant nearby but after that was alright and you could use the air con. Did not accept payment with card although Booked.net and also sign on the hotel door would say they would. No fresh bread for breakfast, just pre-packed sweet croissants or pre- packed toasts. No wi-fi.

Location is perfect.

Make sure you reserve a room with a window on the front of the house, we had a very small window. Maybe some fresh fruit or conetti with breakfast?

Our room only had a very small "window" very high up. There seemed to be a gap of only 20cm between our window and the next building. Even without the very warm weather, I don't think I could spend a night there. Despite it being late in the evening and the additional expense, we found another b&b nearby. For those of you who don't mind a lack of ventilation, the room and bathroom were both large enough, and seemed clean. However, the room we eventually stayed in was much more pleasant and of a similar price range - B&B Sassolino - I would highly recomend it.
